April 29. In The Old West People Were Deputized. That Shared Authority.
Sharing your authority for the best use may grow your team and value.
With ownership of a business enterprise comes authority. But that authority is irrelevant unless we put it to use or put it into action. If you are authorized to manufacture fishing poles, nothing happens until you get the plant and resources put together to do exactly that.
Sometimes we need authority to be granted to keep people from harming others as well. But sometimes people use authority to keep people from doing good. Authority can develop a power complex in the ego of the one authorized. It can be a tough balance.
But authority used for people to do good is the exponential use of authority. It is an exponential way of thinking. Authority used to delegate and to empower others can be awesome. It helps others and helps society to grow exponentially and is the best use of authority.
So, how are we choosing to use our authority? Where are we using our authority recklessly or in a hurtful or demeaning manner? Where are we not using our authority at all? Where are we using our authority to help others grow exponentially?
I am curious, what is the first thing you can do this week to grant authority for someone else to grow exponentially?
As followers of Jesus Christ, we know where the ultimate authority comes from. But that authority has come to earth and has been distributed. We read, “Jesus called his twelve disciples together and gave them authority to cast out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and illness.” Matthew 10:1 NLT.
It was not used for bad. It was not held and used to keep others useless or powerless. You have been granted authority to share the Savior Jesus. We have been given the word to share with others so that we might be in action and in a Christian loving relationship as his church.
What are you doing with your authority? Businesses grant different levels of authority throughout their organizations and God has granted each of us some authority as well. What will you do with it this week? He did not give it to us to sit on the shelf and gather dust but grants it so that his love can grow exponentially.
Where will you use the authority from him, for him, in the next seven days?
Let us pray, the skies are clear and the sun has risen. Once again, the day is new, and we awaken from the darkness and come into the light. Just as you sent Jesus into the world to be the light, you have sent the light of the day to us. We have read of the authority granted by you in the word.
We know your love and ask that you grant us confidence to use our attitudes, our abilities, and our love to use the authority you have granted us. We ask that you walk with us as we encourage each other to find the lost and to share your message. We do so under your loving authority.
May we be able to be the exponential growth agents that you have authorized us to be. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
