As entrepreneurs and leaders, we direct many resources. We even assign values to those resources. It is not uncommon for an organization to have a balance sheet of those resources. But some of the most valuable resources we have are not tracked on the balance sheet.
Today I would like to suggest that the use of our words belongs on the balance sheet. What value do we place on our words? There are few things, if any, that affect all other values more than our words. Words can enhance or harm all our other resources. If you want to enhance your values, how might your words be able to do just that?
Can you think of examples where others have used words which have harmed your values? We need to think no further then how valuable our employees and team members are. How is their value reduced when others use demeaning words towards them?
If one resource could multiply the value of all others we would certainly focus on its use. I believe words have that power. What words might you focus on to enhance your team members value? What is the first thing you can do about it in the next seven days?
As Christians, we know the power of the tongue. We have many stories in the Bible that warned us about the dangers of our words. Today, I want to highlight the positive power of the tongue. Our words can enhance our lives together as brothers and sisters in Christ.
We read, "Kind words are like honey— sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. " Proverbs 16:24 NLT. That certainly makes our positive words sound valuable. Our good words create blessings to other, they can be healing, and they can be encouraging. Words can affirm others and acknowledge their gifts which remind us just how valuable we all are.
Sure, we are all broken in some means, but our words just might be the glue that connect us and bring us together in Christ. Where do you believe that someone could use some good words in your sphere of influence? What is the first thing that you can do about it in the next seven days?
Let us pray, Heavenly Father, so often you speak to us in our hearts, but we don't actually hear your words. Our words in this world have the power to harm or to heal. Thank you for sending Christ to us and allowing him to share words of life and love. Sharing words of hope, health and healing can restore us.
Move in our hearts to share the words of healing with others. When we ourselves are feeling broken, inspire us to change our perspective with words that cost us nothing but are priceless in value. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
