As the leader of a family or an organization we can set the possibility of how we are followed. It can seem at times that some cultures promote entertainment, rest, and relaxation more than it promotes value and action. As a leader, are we promoting the culture or our value proposition?
If our team spends excessive time getting ready, to get ready, and then needs a vacation, we miss the value delivery. Where are you or your team in the get ready zone? When our attitude is in get ready mode it can feel like there is momentum moving in the right direction.
That is a great feeling when you believe that your team is working to provide value. But imagine a vehicle with a low, medium, and high gear. A multiple geared vehicle has gears to achieve efficiency and maximize power which results in value. If our attitudes are allowed to get stuck in getting ready gear, we will not maximize that efficiency and power.
When a set of gears moves through the progression, getting stuck brings stress and friction. I can hear the whining in my mind as I think about a transmission that has not shifted. It sounds uncomfortable when people hear it. It does not sound like a natural sound.
I suspect that people can exhibit the same types of symptoms when they get stuck as well. Where do you think that members of your team might be stuck? As the leader, how will you go about helping to adjust the focus to make the old way uncomfortable?
A new focus will help the team to become comfortable with a new level of success. Let us leave a trail for the team to see how to get unstuck. What is the first thing that you can do about it in the next seven days?
As brothers and sisters in Christ, we are to be called a people of action. But often we can be distracted by the ways of this world. We read, “So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.” 1 Peter 1:13.
If we have a great set of instructions, what is holding us back? Could it be that it is our mindset and reliance on something other than on God? Our attitudes are influenced by the world and the example that Jesus gave us.
The example of the world is constantly in front of us. Perhaps we can challenge each attitude that we take with an alternative one. Instead of an attitude of being right this week, perhaps we can consider an attitude of being kind. Which might emulate Jesus more?
If we focus on an attitude of kindness instead of being right, I believe we will be compelled to be in action more. Being right will not likely cause much to be in action about. Nor will it compel us to honor God and show love. If our attitude gets stuck with being right it will likely act to create that same friction and stress I wrote about earlier.
If the leader refuses to make the shift, I suspect that they are also stuck. A trail of action will leave proof that others have been here before. What can you do this week to be in action to honor Jesus? As a leader, are you willing to make a shift like a clutch of a transmission causes action?
Let us pray. Heavenly Father, you created this world as a place of action. There was one day of rest and the balance of the days were productive. Make a six to one ration be the ratio that we ourselves begin to live in. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
