It is hiring time. An employer somewhere is looking for someone to join their organization. The person will have certain duties to perform, will need to work with others, and ultimately help the organization to provide value to others.
It does not matter if you are hiring or looking to be hired, this entire process is about being ready to provide value. As leader, do you bring someone on the team for talent and skill or do you hire for attitude? I think that attitude has much more to do with value than talent and skill.
The concept of value is something that is really determined in the eyes of the beholder. To prove that, all you must do is to look at the different value propositions in the travel world. On an airplane, there are more expensive seats available in first class and less expensive tickets in coach.
If you want an exit row or a seat near the front, then you must pay more. The plane will get from point a to b either way. The customer is going to decide what is of value. We need our teams to be focused on delivering value.
We need them to be ready at any minute to enhance that value with a smile or a kind tone of voice. The people that serve on your team are going to influence our customers perspectives more than the seat position. Where is the attitude holding back value on your team?
In Matthew 24: 2-51, we read about being ready. The people in our organizations need to be ready. Time is short. When a customer wants to make a purchase, the team must be ready to assist. They may not get a second chance. Not only must employees be ready, but so do we, the members of the church.
There may not be time to go downstairs to get your things as it states in the story. We know that it makes sense that where one is ready another might not be. This is not about skill or talent; it is about attitude.
As members of organizations, and as members of the body of the church, maybe our focus could be on attitude first. When someone comes to your church or small group meeting it will be the attitude of the people that might overcome any other obstacle that a new person might see.
As leaders of organizations, let us be prepared with our attitudes as well. The leader will set an example of attitude. What is the first thing you can do about it in the next seven days?
Let us pray, Heavenly Father, you have blessed us beyond measure. The opportunities are endless before us because of you. Ease our many anxieties as we place those cares with you today.
We ask that you might send your Holy Spirit to us to help discern the attitudes of the people that want to be part of our organizations. Make our attitudes be ones that reflect our intent to be ready. Encourage us as we share with our teams in a way that honors you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
