July 25 Call Out Battle Stations.
Where have you inserted yourself into a battle not yours?
Some leaders prepare for battle when they look out into the competitive environment. It is an easy move for our brains to get defensive and then go on the offense. But it is not quite as easy to do a check of our perception, although it just might be the most beneficial thing to do.
Is your industry being threatened by technology or the internet? Will you lose employees, and will your clients suffer when seemingly the threat or enemy wins? If so, we might circle the wagons, bar the doors and windows so that we are ready for the fight. This might seem like a reasonable approach. Some leaders choose a different approach.
They might ask themselves, is this our fight? Just because it appears that there might be a battle does not make it your battle. Is our focus still on our value for others when we are thinking those are battle lines or commanding others to take your battle stations?
Many times, I expect the best strategy is not to spend the energy and resources that others spend on battle prep and getting to battle stations. Maybe we can use those energies and resources to enhance our value proposition. Where is your industry or your company crying out for battle stations?"
What is the first thing you can do this week to shift your resources, personnel, and systems to the idea of value enhancement? What can you do about it in the next seven days?
Brothers and sisters in Christ, not every battle is ours. We might be tempted to think or even feel that they are because we are close to them. But sometimes we are tempted to join a battle when we do not need to be. There is a story in 2 Chronicles where the Israelites are supreme underdogs.
You might remember a spirit takes over someone in the crowd and they are instructed to meet the opposition but not to fight. When the army approaches, a miracle happens. “At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the LORD caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves.” 2 Chronicles 20:22 NLT.
Where are you being tempted right now and feel defensive like you need to get to your battle station? What would happen if you would agree to step back for a minute or two and allow Jesus to handle the battle? Maybe it might be beneficial for us to even pray and ask God if he would take the battle from us.
If anyone can win a battle it is our God, the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. If they can handle the battle for me then I just might be able to find more energy and time to love and have compassion for the others who are wounded in their battles. What is the first thing that you can do to give over the battle you are about to engage in? Can you focus on it in the next seven days?
Let us pray, Heavenly Father, you know the battles of the mind, of the heart and of mankind. Take our fear away and our desires as we are tempted to go to battle especially when you would happily accept the battle for us. You are the love and guidance that we need.
Find us and bring us to your drop off center where battle concerns may be given to you. May we find rest in the comfort of the palm of your hand after we drop them off. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
