June 12. Here's A Tip, Abandon Ship!

Mark Queen • June 7, 2024

Sometimes things need left behind or they become weighty.

Leaders lead and they help us leave. Where have you as an entrepreneur, or as a leader, had to leave something to move forward? There are areas of our past that we have had to abandon to make room for improvement. What brought us here is not generally what will take us through our next step.

Do you have examples of great leaps of success towards a goal? I would bet an evaluation of the circumstances would show you at least one thing that you had changed and left behind to achieve the new. Where might you have something that needs to be abandoned?

Choose wisely because leaving behind your core values is not likely to serve your future well. What issue is causing you frustration today? What might you do to be able to abandon the frustration? Sometimes our attitude to keep things can serve like an anchor.

That attitude of keeping instead of giving can be both productive and restrictive. Where can you consider giving away and releasing something that could serve to launch you into something more valuable for yourself and for others? What is the first thing you can do in the next seven days to do that?

As brothers and sisters in Christ, we are called to support one another. We are joined together in the love of Jesus. We were born again and called to live a new life with him. We are asked to abandon some of our old lives. In 1 Kings 9:6, we see God’s warning to Solomon and the people of Israel, not to abandon his laws.

we know that the people did abandon their call. They continued to worship other gods and idols. It will cost the nation of Israel considerably throughout their history because of their disobedience. But the good news is that God sent us Christ. Our call is to abandon hate and greed and seek the love and compassion of Christ.

Where might we have abandoned our connection with one another? Where do we need to make that connection again? Abandoning the right things is a power tool for us and it can start with an attitude that it is acceptable to do so.

Abandoning things might seem like it carries a negative connotation, but I believe it is the attitude that we carry that can make it be positive. Abandoning can even be encouraging. Where is it that we have taken on something that is drawing us away from Christ that would be purposeful to abandon?

What is the first thing that you can do about it in the next seven days?

Let us pray, Heavenly Father, send the light of the world into the dark places that we have created. Make your love and compassion help us to abandon the dark. May we find the light of your love where others might have hate. Encourage us as brothers and sisters to connect us in Christ and encourage us with abandoning the things that do not honor you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
