March 27 Missing Something Amazing Can Start With A Lack Of Curiosity.

Mark Queen • March 26, 2024

When afraid or in pain, perhaps being curious will change the perspective.

As a leader, will we miss the important questions and mindsets of the week? This week will be full of transactions. People will be running to the store for groceries, gas stations will pump gas, insurance premiums will be due and paid, and the bank will be open.

I expect that there will be a few challenges. There will be questions about the satisfaction of service that we receive and provide. Somewhere this week, somebody is not going to get what they thought they were paying for.

When they do not, how will we respond to their question of how we can resolve the difference between the expected and the actual? There is always the opportunity to be amazed after a question is asked. These are times that leaders, organizations, and businesses can set themselves apart.

There are times where raving fans can be created. It is difficult to make raving fans sometimes because of the attitude we might have. One way to address it is to have identified the goal of your attitude right now for the coming seven days.

How do you want your mindset to be if someone challenges you with a hard question? I can see at least three options to consider. The first is to not care. They have a problem, so it is all on them. Sometimes life has bad apples so deal with it, and this is one of those times.

Mindset two is to be curious to expect that we can amaze them. Your solution and answer to the question could far exceed their expectations. A curiosity and amazement mindset can move people emotionally so they will not be able to stop talking about it.

Your solution might even make national news, or a video of the answer could become viral. Option three is to do as little as possible to meet their expectation. Which attitude is your team carrying? Which mindset will you choose in the next seven days?

In the Bible, we have an example of a mindset in Luke: 8:22-26. We find the story of the disciples and Jesus in another boat. This time they incur stormy seas so heavy that the disciples wake up Jesus and explain that they are frightened. Jesus rebukes the storm, and it ceases.

Jesus then immediately questions the disciples. He asks, "Where is your faith?" to which they have no response to Christ. Who is this man who can even tell the weather what to do? What was their mindset?

Were they prepared with a mindset of curiosity and amazement when the storm arose and threatened their lives? It might be that their fear of drowning, of the storm and rocky seas had overtaken an attitude of amazement.

As Christians, followers of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we are called to have attitudes of amazement. We believe in the resurrection of the Savior of the world. Prepare to be amazed. What is the first thing you can do today to set your mind for amazement in the next seven days?

Let us pray, Heavenly Father, thank you for the gifts of the day. We enter the world today ready for you. We know that you can amaze us. We ask today that you help us to have an attitude that shares and prepares us for your amazing capabilities.

We know that it is difficult to love the unlovable but through you, we can do it. We know it is difficult to forgive the unforgivable, but that is an opportunity for amazing energy and effort as well. May our attitudes today, especially today, be prepared to be amazing through you.

We ask in Jesus’ name, and in your name, it is possible to be amazed. Amen,
