As entrepreneurs and leaders, we can get focused on our teams and that can be a good thing. But that can be a challenge as well. When we protect our team, we can be restrictive. It is that restrictive outlook that can keep us where we are as individuals and a team, instead of compelling us forward to what we want to become.
Can you recall times that you missed opportunities to add great people to your team? What about times that you missed the opportunity to add a great resource that might increase your profitability?
Why is it so easy to overlook them when they occur? It is likely to happen because it is change and we fear the loss of at least our planned path forward. Our minds do not want change, they want the status quo. We can get protective.
What might be an incredible, life changing opportunity in front of you this week? Stop for a second and think about it. Where might you be this week that could expose you to new resources, new ideas, and new people?
Our attitudes going into the week are some factors that might help opportunities to be seen. Curiosity is an attitude that will help. If we point our nose to the grindstone our eyes will remain there.
Taking at least a once a day pause to be curious and look around is a good activity challenge. I wonder, will you see a new opportunity to meet someone new? Maybe we might even chat about how you have used this book. That might be an opportunity.
Will you choose to keep your head down and your nose to the grindstone? What is the first thing you can do about it in the next seven days?
We have opportunities to live, love and grow in our faith as well. we read, "But he said to them, ‘It is I; do not be afraid.’ Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.” John 6:20-21.
This is the story where Jesus walked on the water to catch the disciples in the boat. "Hey fellas, it is me Jesus," is my paraphrase. The disciples were missing the opportunity to experience Jesus in a special way. I can relate to that, can you?
There are times during the day that I could be forgiving, more loving, be more inviting and show more kindness. I am in that boat where my nose is to the grindstone and almost oblivious to all that is going on around me. Focus is a great tool that we certainly need.
But the mind needs both certainty and variability. If I was just focused on experiencing Christ’s still quiet voice, I might miss his message in the scriptures. What about you? Where might you be keeping your mind on rowing the boat and miss the opportunity to invite Christ to join you in it?
Perhaps if we were being curious, Jesus might ask us to walk on the water with him. What will you do to get out of the boat this week? It could start with your attitude to be curious when and where it might happen.
Let us pray, Heavenly Father, thank you for the blessings that you have granted us. Open our minds and hearts this week so that we might share your love and show it. Remove the storm clouds, fog, and forests that are keeping us from seeing those who are near us and need us.
Make our eye site clear, our hearts compelled and our feet to move forward in relationship with you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
