May 21. Thirteen Brothers Or Sisters?

Mark Queen • May 20, 2024

How many advisors do you have and who needs added?

As business owners and leaders, it is common to set up layers of supervision and management in companies. We learn to delegate authority to those layers, and we teach those with authority to supervise their workload and advise their teams.

If we do not do this, we run the risk of teams operating to several different purposes or whys. That will not serve a value proposition very well in the long run. But as entrepreneurs, who is on our supervision and advisory team? I like to believe that the more advisers we have, the more successful we might be.

We might have an attorney for drafting legal documents and to handle legal matters. A bookkeeper will help to keep us on track to know the financial score, while the CPA will be able to offer tax preparation and advice on the projected results. Who is helping us to overlook and advise over all that as a group?

Who is helping us to monitor technology tools? Where might your team’s supervision and advisory roles be lacking? Where are your team’s supervisors and advisers doing a great job and have you thanked them lately?

But as an entrepreneur, where does your team of advisers for yourself need improvement? I do not think that there could be any more important adviser than the ones that help us! That is because we are the primary risk takers for the entity and our team.

Just because you are an entrepreneur or team leader does not mean that you have to do it alone. What is the first thing you can do in the next seven days to improve it?

In Proverbs 15:22 NLT we read, "Plans go wrong for a lack of advice; many advisers bring success." I think there is a lot of value in having people in our life to help share their perceptions to the challenges and successes that we come across. Jesus had a team of at least twelve.

Those twelve had even more that were close to them. Those twelve could support one another, love one another, and help each other through the good and bad times. As believers, our personal "whys" are connected. But we will be at different places on our paths in our walk with Christ.

We can use different perceptions to draw us closer to God. Where are you wanting to strengthen your walk or pick up the pace? Your advisers might be someone else who are able to hold a flashlight for you if the path is too dark for your comfort level because your hands are full.

Jesus had twelve, which made a team of thirteen brothers. How many do you have? I have heard the phrase, “Jesus is my copilot.” But if Jesus is our copilot, who here on earth helps to be your navigator? Who is the first person you will add if they make the time and give the energy?

What is the first thing that you might do in the next seven days to build your adviser team?

Let us pray, Heavenly Father, you have shown us the way. But the path is narrow, treacherous at times, and sometimes dark and destructive. Help us to have a team that will walk with us, to advise us, and to love us.

May our relationships be connected to each other through you. Guide us as we seek to strengthen our brothers and sisters. If thirteen brothers were good enough for Christ, it is good enough for me. Help us to grow each other in your love and draw us closer to you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
