June 1. The Perspective Is Different From Any That You Choose.

Mark Queen • May 31, 2024

Where can you benefit by shifting perspective?

The view is different from any perspective you choose. As a leader or an owner of a business, the viewpoint of activities is different from those performing the duties. Each person’s perception of the space around them is different.

The mental environment is different, and they experience a different set of memories and neural pathways about them. But it is easy to buy into the belief that what we see individually is the truth. It is like my perception is the correct one. If mine are correct, I might find it easy to believe that other perceptions are likely to be wrong unless they are similar enough to be like mine.

The fact is that they are just our perspectives. We each individually give meaning to that which we see and experience. Where is your company or team you lead ready to exponentially grow but you seem to be stuck?

Maybe a different viewpoint can bring a different explanation that may allow for you to cross the tipping point. Who is a person that you respect and are comfortable with their ability to perceive? Perhaps their perception of our sticking point could remove some self-imposed limits that we have as an obstacle in our way.

What is the first thing you can do in the next seven days to get a different perspective on your sticking points?

As people, we are filled with perspectives. They are not necessarily right or wrong, they are just perspectives. But where in our walk with Christ might our perspective be several degrees apart from Christ's perspective of what he wants for us, or even from us?

In John 21, we read the story of Jesus appearing on the shore while the disciples are fishing. He asks Peter three times if he, Peter, loves Jesus. The third time he asked, Peter’s feelings were hurt. Why did his feelings get hurt? Was it something Jesus said? The answer is no.

It was not something Jesus said but it was what Peter interpreted. It is what he perceived. I am curious, where might you think that you have harmed someone else in the last seven days? Is that a correct perception? I ask with no judgment cast on you.

What is the first thing you can do to bring the relationship into a better bond? Perhaps we might consider the perception of what Jesus would do or say. Could sharing a conversation with the other party about what Christ's perception might have been of the situation help? What can you do about it in the next seven days?

Let us pray, Heavenly Father, your perception is all knowing. As humans in the world, we shape our own perceptions from our own points of view. Help us to align our behaviors with your love regardless of our limited perceptions. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
