As a leader or an entrepreneur, you become a type of builder. We build something but it starts with a foundation. If a business has setbacks, it is as if what we are building is brought down or disassembled somehow. If things fall apart in an organization, it ultimately will fall back to its foundation.
The building that can be created can only be as large and strong as the foundation it is built upon. So, what is your organization's foundation? Does it have a good footing of concrete under it? What about rebar, is your concrete reinforced with rebar?
Or could it be that your business foundation was built on flint? One that builds a foundation with flint will eventually find out that the flint will fall apart. It ruptures and crumbles as heat and change finds the fissures and cracks in the stone. Are you sure there are no blocks of flint in your foundation?
It might be that if you are having trouble in building, you could be building on a flawed part of your foundation. As a leader, we have the responsibility to inspect the foundation. If we are building the team from nothing, we must place the cornerstone.
If you are leading a team that was built by others you might want to audit the foundation and look for the flint. Foundations can be repaired but they will not be if you do not do an inspection. Leaders do not get the privilege to not know if the foundation is faulty.
Is there flint in your organizational foundation? What is the first step that you can do about it?
As followers of Jesus Christ, we have the opportunity to have our foundation rebuilt without cost. The flaws of our foundation, our sins, and our weaknesses, are repaired from his sacrifice.
We read, “You will be desolate forever. Even your stones will never again be used for building. You will be completely wiped out,” says the LORD.” Jeremiah 51:26 NLT. This Old Testament reading shows the effects of living only under the law. But the law will always result in failure to comply.
That is why we need a better foundation. We have a foundation that cannot crack, rupture or crumble. That foundation is Jesus. When we commit our lives to that foundation it never needs to be rebuilt. We can begin a journey to build upon that foundation with our faith.
We put up pillars of love, of compassion, and connect them through rafters of relationships. The failures and sins of this world, nor our sins or failures can ever destroy that foundation. Maybe the most important thing we can do today is to think about how strong our foundation is.
Where are you feeling weak? A leader has the ability to change their perspective. Why not focus on your foundation? What is the first thing you want to do about your foundation hat in the next seven days?
Let us pray, Heavenly Father, thank you for a foundation upon which to build our lives. You have paid for that foundation. The price was extreme, but you have given it to us for free. Guide us as we build our lives and relationships upon that foundation.
Give us confidence as we place our trust on the foundation. Guide us to build upon it and comfort us when we are brought down by this world. Build us so that we never abandon our foundation. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen,
