October 3. Which Is Your Focus?

Mark Queen • October 2, 2024

What is difference between addition and multiplication on your team?

As a leader, some might think that our worlds get more complicated by things getting added to our plates. But if our focus is on growing our people, I think our math is more likely to be based on multiplication not addition. Where is your team looking to add instead of multiplying?

Is your team possibly settling for adding ten more clients when they could be thinking ten times the number of clients and satisfied customers? Would they like to reduce their problems and challenges by one or two or would they like to reduce their problems by ten times? I think value-based entrepreneurs are focused more on multiplication.

When you look at your team do you think that they are adding or multiplying? Your team might be reflecting what you are doing yourself. Are you adding or multiplying? It can be difficult to change our focus from adding to multiplying but the future of our team and the value we provide will be restricted by just adding.

As leader, imagine what happens to a mathematical formula if you begin to interchange the math symbols of addition and multiplication. The result changes immediately. How can you multiply this week? What is the first step you can take to put your focus on multiplication?

As brothers and sisters in the faith, we can get trapped into manners of simple addition as well. But we remember we are to forgive seventy times seven, not seven plus seven. In the Old Testament we read, “Marry and have children. Then find spouses for them so that you may have many grandchildren. Multiply! Do not dwindle away!” Jeremiah 29:6 NLT.

The Israelites were not supposed to just add to their population but multiply. How much might you multiply the times you forgive this week? Will you read a single word in the Bible, or can you multiply the words and sentences? Will you love once this week or how about taking the opportunity to love a multiple number of times.

It is a complex world and God likes multiplication. Are you going to decide to add or multiply? Relationships are important to us. Which math subject do you think will grow your faith? Will we divide the impact that Christ can have on us or others?

Perhaps we could be subtracting and removing those that disagree with us or maybe we should be loving them. Choosing to add is a choice. Why not choose to multiply? Our focus on the relationship with Christ is best served by our focus of multiplying his love in our lives. What is the first thing you can do about it and the next seven days?

Let us pray, Heavenly Father, the world is yours and we enjoy the ability to live in it. Guide us this week as we reflect upon our ability to add. Help us to multiply instead of adding. We want your healing touch to multiply among all that are hurting.

Multiply among us the opportunities to love and forgive. Help us to multiply the numbers of people that will come to a relationship with Christ. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
