As a leader, our teams work to provide a product or service to others. But part of the delivery system is that we also need to take care of our team. Our ability to serve, just by ourselves, is limited. It is like we are but a drop of water. We are valuable when we contribute but one drop will not quench a thirst.
One drop of water may get a seed to sprout but it will not sustain growth for very long. It will likely shrivel and die without more drops. One drop in the swimming pool will not be very valuable to the swimmers or the divers. The lifeguards’ job will be pretty easy though.
But put several drops together and life-threatening thirsts can be satisfied. I believe that we all have a thirst to be part of something bigger than ourselves. Sometimes that instinct is suppressed but it is still there. People join groups that do bad and evil things, but people still join, nevertheless.
When we join teams, our lives get connected, become fuller and provide the potential to increase impact. Get enough drops together and a current may form which can move things. How are you taking care of the drops that are parts of your team?
Are you acting like water and oil which are not mixing well or are you forming a powerful current to benefit others by moving them with value? Perhaps today we might be inspired to increase the power of our current by joining with others. What is the first thing that you can do about it in the next seven days?
As brothers and sisters, our faith may be our connection to our biggest team. Part of being a piece of Christ's church is taking care of one another. We read, “But those who will not care for their relatives, especially those in their own household, have denied the true faith.
Such people are worse than unbelievers.” 1 Timothy 5:8 NLT. By ourselves, we are just a drop of water unable to even quench our own thirst. But working together with the people of Christ's church we are a movable force. We can change the world for the better.
And it is Christ that makes that force become living water for us and others. Where might you be acting like oil and not mixing with others? Who do you know that can help you be a part of the unstoppable current and become an integral part of the current of living water?
If Christ can change water into wine, then surely, he can take our oil and let it become water. Let it be so and may we be inspired to take the first step in the transformation. What is the first thing you can do about it in the next seven days?
Let us pray, Heavenly Father, you have provided to us your living water. You have given us Jesus Christ. You have given us a family of believers and taken care of us. Let us now set our differences aside and figure out how to honor you by working together.
Whether we drop gently or splash with great joy into your river, we will trust in you. Send a ripple of compassion to others and our families. May you form us into a movable current of love. Shape the banks of this current so that we might impact the world for you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
