As leaders, what time frame are you using today? Some leaders might have an important meeting planned. They might be acting in reference to that meeting. Others may have a project going on and are thinking about the end of their project. I like to think of time references as being in the present (the next seven days) and being in a bigger future.
When somebody has a time reference of a bigger future, they know what they want to accomplish. They know who they want to be in relationship with. They know how they themselves want to be physically and mentally. They know the value of their bigger future and can even visualize some aspects of it with clarity.
Are you taking the time to create a bigger future? Are the teams of your organization helping you to shape a bigger future? I think that one's future might be limited if we have not given our team the same clarity that we ask leaders to seek. How might you collaborate to build a bigger future? What is the first thing you can do about it in the next seven days?
Our time perception is important for us as a people of faith as well. We read, ""Go back to Hezekiah and tell him, ‘This is what the LORD, the God of your ancestor David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will add fifteen years to your life,” Isaiah 38:5 NLT.
I can and have imagined how my life would be changed if I were granted an extension. Can you? I challenge you to work with this process. What if your days on earth would end ninety days from now, what would you do differently? Would you live and love more, or would you spend your time doing exactly what you are doing now?
I would think that if we really valued our relationships in this manner our activities might tend to look differently. How might you change your professional activities to be of the most value? How would your relationship with your family change? How would your relationship with the Bible, the church and Jesus Christ change?
Can you imagine, will you imagine? A bigger future with God just might be in the balance. There is no place like the present to begin collaborating with Jesus. What is the first thing to do about it in the next seven days?
Let us pray, Heavenly Father, you have the perfect clock. It is made up of the arms of Christ. We cannot even know of your measure as our seconds may be millions of our years to you. Let us have a relationship with Christ that is not limited to minutes or hours.
Guide us to be in relationship with one another, to be a valuable loving brother and sister. Let us join you, in your time, when we experience love. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen,
