As a leader, I like to think that there are some switches that we get to turn from off to on. When new team members decide to join us, it is a switch. The day we started a family is a switch. The day we started our business was a switch.
But as important as the switches are we also have gauges. To truly deliver value, we need to have gauges that are monitored. Have you ever had a vehicle that had a non working gas gauge? The simple task of trusting your vehicle to take you someplace is no longer simple. Your attention is drawn on a regular basis.
Is there enough fuel in the vehicle to get you to your destination? Some might even begin to track their mileage. What gauges do you have in place for your team? Do you have any gauges for yourself? How are you measuring your excellence, your success, your finances, your team?
I think that we can find it more valuable by having some appropriate gauges. When you do not have proper gauges or they are not working, your value delivery system will most likely run out of fuel. What is the first thing you can do about it in the next seven days?
As brothers and sisters in Christ we all have flipped a switch. That was our declaration to follow Christ. But after you have thrown the switch, it is time to have some gauges. Where have you set gauges for yourself in regard to your faith?
How would your compassion gauge, your love gauge, your forgiveness gauge, read today? How would your being in the word, your honesty, your trusting, your listening gauges read? How would your attitude of sabbath, sin, devotions and prayer gauges read?
We read, “And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.” Ephesians 3:18 NLT. Do you see how many times the word how is used here? If we want to know how much, it means that a gauge might be able to be used.
As followers of Christ, I think that the gas and tire gauge for our vehicles should be less important than the gauges for our faith. What gauges might you put in place to have a deeper walk with Christ? Which of the gauges above might grip you today? What is the first thing you can do about it in the next seven days?
Let us pray, Heavenly Father, you have created it all. You have thrown the switch. Let us take seriously our decision, our switch, to follow you. Help us to create gauges for ourselves. May the reading of those gauges draw us closer to a full tank with you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
