As a leader, what do you wear as part of your uniform? Is it a baseball cap, a cowboy hat or maybe a fedora? Our uniforms make a difference, but the most important part of our uniform might be a helmet. Helmets serve a purpose; they are not just for appearance. They protect our heads, our minds and our ability to lead.
Because of this, I like to think of that protection of a helmet as confidence for a team leader. When we wear our helmets of confidence there are few tasks that we cannot handle. Without that confidence, there is not much we can do. We can be trapped in mundane circumstances, be void of creativity and be less productive.
We certainly are less valuable to our teams and our purpose. Where have you as leader been wearing your helmet of confidence lately? Where have you or your team been missing theirs? Part of being a great leader is helping our team members to find their confidence and to wear it.
What is the first thing you can do to put the helmet of confidence on anyone on your team?
As a person of faith, when was the last time you were in church? I want you to think back to what the people were wearing. Although the people were dressed differently, sweaters, suits, tee shirts and so on, they wore many of the same things.
We read, “But let us who live in the light be clear headed, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.” 1 Thessalonians 5:8 NLT. The creatures of this world will attack us daily. Those attacks can result in our minds and hearts being ripped, torn or broken.
But it is our faith in Christ that we truly should be wearing. We can take our clothes to the seamstress when they need to be mended. As a result of that mending, we will have to pay a cost. But Christ has already paid the cost for our true brokenness and repair.
There are no rips or tears in our armor of faith and love that Christ cannot repair. Where are you feeling broken today? Maybe it is time to put on your helmet f confidence. What is the first thing you can do about it in the next seven days?
Let us pray, Heavenly Father, you are the tailor of the universe. You sent Christ to pay the price for all the brokenness of those that want to be mended. We come to you, the disheveled, ripped, torn and are showing the attacks of this world.
Strengthen our confidence now as we know that Christ has paid the cost. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
