As entrepreneurs and leaders, we can impact others by our attitudes. We might ask what attitude we can share to provide the most value to our organizations. The first attitude likely to be valuable is to be appreciative or thankful. Regardless of whether you are showing it, we all want to be appreciated.
If you are showing appreciation, you will likely connect with your team and your customers. If we can do this, an attitude of appreciativeness then can be a form of a gift. The cost of that gift is zero, but the value can be priceless. Another attitude that is valuable is your “bigger” attitude.
Is your past bigger than your future or is your future bigger than your past? Having an attitude that your past is bigger than your future means that you are probably in decay. Decay does not normally provide much value, growth does. If your attitude is that the future is bigger, then the present is likely brighter, and it certainly has movement in a growing pattern.
Where can you develop your "bigger" attitudes that could add value to your team? How can you share those attitudes and who on your team could it help the most? What is the first thing that you can do about it in the next seven days?
As brothers and sisters in Christ, we can be sharing the do's and the do not's. Have you ever looked at the Ten Commandments that way? In our everyday lives, I expect that we are caught in a combination where we experience both attitudes. But which will add the most value to the church and your faith?
I think that the do's bring the most value. They keep us in a relationship. The do's are gifts that we can give. In Proverbs 20:12 NLT we read, "Ears to hear and eyes to see— both are gifts from the LORD.” What words and attitudes have you been sharing recently?
Have the majority been the do's, those gifts to others, or might they have been something else? What would happen this week or even just today if we were to focus on the do? I think that it just might make today a gift. Consider this, what will your team members feel if you do something that helps them achieve?
How could a team member move forward if you do a special recognition of thanks that is not normal? Who would surprise you the most if they shared with you today that they appreciate the way that you lead? When we think of a name, we can see the power of doing. You can imagine a feeling that my question evoked.
But it would be the actual doing of the person that would potentially build the relationship. That builds community. That is what builds our church community as well. What is the first thing that you can do about it in the next seven days?
Let us pray, Heavenly Father, you have created the world and everything in it and given it all to us to be stewards over. Let us show our appreciation today. Be with us as we thank you for such a wonderful gift of the day. Thank you for the gift of Jesus.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to love one another regardless of the circumstances. Help us to see a different perspective when all we feel is fear. Guide us as we move from the do not to the do. May the glory and honor all be yours. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
