Do you flip? You might think I am speaking about the gymnastics maneuver. As leaders, one of our tasks is to help our team flip perceptions. It is not uncommon for team members to occasionally get off task.
Like ourselves, we start to chase a shiny object and begin to do something that we might even be incompetent doing? You have probably heard that someone's perception is their reality. If a team member has a perception that is incongruent with your value delivery method, we need to change that perception.
It is time for a flip if that is the case. Where might you need to consider a flip for yourself? How about asking this from your team, “What is the most beneficial change for our team, that I as leader, am in the way of accomplishing?”
That might challenge us to flip a little bit or a lot. We all need to flip occasionally. Where can you put the focus this week on a flip for yourself? How might you challenge your team to achieve at least one flip?
Flips of perception can be achieved when we bring curiosity to the top of mind and tip of our tongues. Where can you and your team focus to do a flip in your professional, personal, or faith areas? What is the first thing that you can do about it in the next seven days?
As Christians, we are subject to the flip as well. But there are things that God does not want us to flip about. We read, "Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God.” James 3:9 NLT.
Do you wield the all-mighty power of the tongue? I do not know of any examples where God wants us to use the power of the tongue to harm others. He never wants us to flip our love for Jesus to hate. He does not want us to flip our love for our fellow man to hate either.
But we can do that as our pain and suffering can draw our attention. What activity might be beneficial during the Christmas season to flip? We can allow our weaknesses to be the focus. We can allow ourselves to be the focus as well.
The birth of Christ is the focus of Christmas so we can ask ourselves if that is where our focus is at. Let us flip what society might put as the focus and bring it to the story of Jesus. There is no focus more important than this.
Can you locate any distractions and eliminate them so that this will be the most loving celebration you can experience? What is the first thing you can do about it in the next seven days?
Let us pray, Heavenly Father, we are about to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Help us to consider our behaviors that might be focused on presents and gifts instead of love and joy. Help us to flip and turn towards you. Be our guiding factor this week as we approach the day of Christmas. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
