It is common for people to root for the underdog. Think of the underdog stories from past Olympic competitions. Turn arounds are amazing and can be redeeming. I mean absolute one hundred and eighty degree turns in the other direction might be the most difficult thing to accomplish.
I think this might be the truth for the perceptions with our teams when they are off and out of alignment. Just because you, as a leader, might believe that a turnaround is appropriate does not mean that your team believes it.
Let us face it, as a leader we probably taught, trained, supported, and rewarded efforts and energies about the old way. We have probably supported the past direction and the result got off course somewhere. Variables take us off course regularly.
Can we really expect that a turnaround with our team could be accomplished so easily? I think not. But if your turn around move is from a product or commodity perspective to a value proposition you just might have to do it. Another example of a great turn around could be the challenge of beginning to support someone in your field who you used to oppose.
But the difficulties of the examples might just show how rewarding it would be to accomplish just that, a complete turnaround. What is the most difficult and rewarding thing that you could turn around in the next six months?
The rewards might include new relationships, new team members and record quarterly revenues. What is the first thing you can do about it in the next seven days?
As brothers and sisters in Christ I do not think that there is anything more blessed than when we feel close to Jesus through the Holy Spirit. It just melts the concerns, fears, and worries of the world away. But we make it difficult as we allow other things to distract us.
We can allow our emotions and our thoughts to direct us instead of allowing our faith to lead us. Think of one of the great leaders of the early church, Paul. Here is part of his conversion conversation, "“‘But Lord,’ I argued, ‘they certainly know that in every synagogue I imprisoned and beat those who believed in you.
And I was in complete agreement when your witness Stephen was killed. I stood by and kept the coats they took off when they stoned him.’” Acts of the Apostles 22:1-20 NLT. What would you do if a person like Paul visited you today and had changed his perspective one hundred eighty degrees?
Would you be ready to forgive him and be in a relationship with him? Do you think you could accept him in a leadership position of your local church or possibly your children's Sunday school? I suspect that we all need to turn one hundred eighty degrees around with some issue in our lives.
Which one do you feel being led to change? I expect that there are several areas of our life that we could use a turnaround. Do not be fooled to think that the turnaround is easy. They take determination, persistence, hard work, and commitment. With the help of the Holy Spirit, it is possible.
Call upon the name of Jesus and start the work of the turnaround. The only thing keeping us from doing that complete turnaround is ourselves. What is the first thing you can do about it in the next seven days??
Let us pray, Heavenly Father, we want to draw near to Jesus. We live in a world that is full of sin and distractions. We allow other things to get in the way. Guide us and support us as we find the courage to turn around like Paul did.
Habit by habit, thought by thought and word by word, encourage us to help others as they turn around as well. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
