July 29. ARRRR, I Like Me Scars.
Scars signify both hurt and healing.
As a leader of a team, we will experience failure. If we do not, we really are not risking much. Sometimes we really miss the mark though. It is like shooting an arrow at a bullseye-ringed target. Sometimes you get the bullseye, other times you are in the rings and sometimes you miss the target completely.
What is the last thing that your team did that missed the target completely? We could have those on our team that might want to gloss over and excuse the miss. But learning from the miss is vital to our growth. No excuses are needed but causes may be seen when we look back briefly.
One important step that can be beneficial to us is to acknowledge how the miss affected the rest of our value proposition. The opportunity cost of a miss gives us the opportunity to apologize where needed. It can start the learning process and value enhancement. We can enhance even further by our teams learning what we should not be doing.
One of the largest opportunities of a miss is to collaborate with others. If your red arrows consistently miss the target, would you consider finding a collaborator to handle the red arrows with you? What can you do to enhance your value proposition because you failed in the last year?
Where are your red arrows? What can you do about it in the next seven days?
Fellow followers of Christ, where have you been broken in the last 30 days? Was it your words from the powerful tongue? Was it an act of selfishness instead of showing compassion? Maybe it was an act of sinning that directly hurt another person. The good news today is that our brokenness can be healed.
Our wounds can be bandaged and treated with love and eventually all we might have left is a scar. Have you ever realized that scars are good? They mean that you have overcome. There are examples of many bad people in the Bible. One about as bad as they come was King Manasseh and at the end of his journey, he renewed his relationship with God.
"But while in deep distress, Manasseh sought the LORD his God and sincerely humbled himself before the God of his ancestors.” 2 Chronicles 33:12 NLT. I am sure that Manasseh carried with him the scars of his bad years. We all have been wounded but are you ready to leave behind the wounds of the past and move into the healing?
How about moving from the health of the healing process into the wisdom of knowing and seeing your scars? Do you have wounds stuck in the wound phase? Jesus can use our scars to help us grow and provide peace. Who will you collaborate with to move your wounds to beautiful scars?
What is the first thing that you might do about it in the next seven days?
Let us pray, Heavenly Father, you are all the grace we need. You have given and shown us the power of your healing and the way to be in relationship with you. Help us to see the wounds of the past as the scars of wisdom of the present.
Draw us near you as we move our scarred hands into action in honor of you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
