Leaders, what are you doing to set expectations? Our brains have neural networks which are built as we learn. Those networks will automatically set some level of expectation which is relative to the past, not the future. If we want our teams to have the success we want for the future, then we must set new expectations.
It is easy to do, just discuss why you want a result. Then you can establish what that result is to accomplish. Once we have the what figured out, we can set up how we will measure it. Great leaders might just need to set new expectations.
New expectations lead to a bigger future, but the neural networks will only take us to the old. How can we get past those neural networks? Maybe it is just a countdown to set the expectations. Three, two, one- launch. If you do not expect to land on the moon the spacecraft will most likely not arrive there.
It requires the leader to create a focus on the expectation. When we launch our teams, they will know where to go and how to do it. Where are your expectations too low and holding back yourself and your team? Where is your team living with too low of a set of expectations?
It is possible that a bigger future awaits and the only things holding you back are a set of low expectations. What is the first thing that you can do about it in the next seven days? I expect that you can set at least one new measurement.
As a person of faith, have you established new expectations? We learned from sin and lived with the result of it prior to coming to know Christ. But those neural networks are not what shape us now. Our expectation of our old selves has been washed away by Christ.
We read from 1 Peter 1:3 NLT, "All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectations.” Could our relationship with Christ be enhanced as simply as beginning to set our expectations on him instead of this world?
That requires us to set our expectations then. Let us ask ourselves these three questions. The first is why is my new expectation going to Honor Christ? The second question is what will we do to achieve a new result? We include Jesus, yourself, and the church.
The last question is how will I measure if I am doing my part? So, brothers and sisters, are we willing to create a launch? This launch might be the biggest growth phase of your faith journey. This launch could be the first step in repairing relationships of the world because there is no relationship that the Holy Spirit cannot impact.
What possibilities are you keeping from happening because we do not have an expectation of ourselves to grow with Jesus? Are you willing to focus on a launch? Ready, three, two, one, launch!
Let us pray, Heavenly Father, it is time for a new dawn and a new day. Make the sunrise to remind us daily of new expectations. May forgiveness occur when forgetfulness comes. Bring fascination where frustration might be the norm.
Bring Christ when crisis might be the standard. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
