Leaders of families, organizations and companies need different tools. Those tools have unique abilities. The claw hammer can pull out a bent nail so that something can be attached correctly. It can be easy to grab a substitute tool. I have grabbed a crescent wrench and used it as a hammer before.
It does not work as well and mostly is just a waste of time and energy. It might even damage the inappropriately used tool. Our team members are great tools as well. They have unique abilities. Some pull insights and make decisions from financial data like the hammer pulls nails.
Other team members might be able to tighten processes like the socket wrench tightens the bolt. Even the seemingly weakest tool has a unique ability. Where could you, as leader, use your tools more effectively? For many people, we want to hold on to the tasks that we have been doing regardless of how effective they are.
This also gets in the way of us doing our unique abilities more often. That desire to hold onto those tasks is a limit. Will we do our very best instead of saying I guess what I am doing is ok? If we want to grow our results exponentially, we might want to get the team functioning in more of their unique abilities and remove those limits.
What is the first thing that you can do about it this week?
As brothers and sisters in Christ, we make up the church. The church is the people. So, as a part of Christ's church, you are important regardless of what you do well or have done badly in the past.
We read from the book of Hebrews, “They quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight.” Hebrews 11:34 NLT. Christ's call is to do our best.
That is not your guess and not just doing something so-so. Consider that maybe a great way to draw close to Christ is to do that which you are good or even great at. Are we conf
ident enough to let our weaknesses be handled by the church and our team of believers?
Can we find enough trust and faith in Christ to answer that call? Where are you willing to be bold enough to declare that you are weak in an area of your faith and allow others to help you? In many cultures it is not acceptable to show your weakness. It can even be dangerous to show a weakness.
But those realities have limited applications. Are we willing to allow God to address those situations? We might be called by God to be the answer of strength to someone’s danger if that were the case. Where are your unique strengths that you can use for Christ?
If you can use the strengths of others to enrich your faith, then it is up to you to make that declaration. What is the first thing you can do about it in the next seven days?
Let us pray, Heavenly Father, thank you for so many blessings in our lives. Thank you for making each and every one of us so unique and designed in your image. Together we come to be your church. One body, that when assembled through your strength, is the mightiest toolbox to address the challenges of this world.
Build and assemble us through your love and guide us to offer ourselves as a tool to honor you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
