As a leader, are you focused on value? I think a focus on value is a great place to start. It begs the question; can we deliver more to others than we can get in return? If we do this, I think that we are more likely to have better team members, better teamwork and raving fans for customers.
When was the last time you encountered someone giving you an extreme value? Recall the entire transaction for a second. What was the environment like, clean, organized and presentable or run down, dirty and disheveled? How were the people including the other customers?
Was everyone edgy, angry and temperamental or were they pleasant and even energetic? What would you expect to happen to your teams' profitability if it becomes value driven? It is all too common to meet people delivering their efforts and energies with mediocrity.
How is your team positioned for the remainder of the year? This final quarter could be one of the most valuable of your life or it could very well be the most mediocre one of recent past. The choice just might start with you. How about asking your team members which one they might prefer?
I think I know which one your customers would choose. Will you be inspired to have a mediocre finish to the year or will you be inspired to reject mediocrity?
As a people of faith, we just might be walking among angels. We read, “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing so some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:2 NIV. How many angels have you met? I think that is an interesting proposition.
I think a better question is how many angels would you like to meet in the future? I would like to meet a lot, especially if I can meet them here on earth. If you are like me, this passage holds a lot of potential for us then. What is holding you back from being hospitable in even the smallest of ways?
Can you spare a piece of gum or an extra ten minutes to help change a flat tire? You just never know who you might meet and the next angel in your path might like a piece of juicy fruit, cinnamon, or spearmint gum. And remember, you do not have to be in the hospital to be hospitable.
But to be hospitable is one of the ways God may find us valuable. What is the first thing that you can do about it in the next seven days?
Let us pray, Heavenly Father, we are fortunate to live with your grace. Let us pray, move forward today and be hosts for you. May we be in relationship with those both deserving and undeserving, and with those lovable and those that seem unlovable.
May you set aside our fears so that we might meet the angels that you might place in our lives. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
