October 25th. Two Priority Alignments.

Mark Queen • October 24, 2024

Will you focus on work tasks or life priorities?

Leaders and followers alike have a multitude of activities to pursue. I hear many people speak of their desire to be more organized, wanting to have an increased ability to manage their time. This desire might be driven to a positive result by focusing on the priority.

Notice that I did not say priorities. If your responsibilities as a person were restricted so that you could only do five things, what would they be? Oftentimes when I work with clients, we will do an inventory of all the things that occur during their work or personal time.

Even the mundane and habitual activities are listed. Checking email, opening mail, answering the phone, managing people, creating, or reading reports are just a few options. I am sure that your list goes beyond this. It can be difficult for the leader to identify what the top five activities of importance might be.

What if it were only three? What if it were only one? Perhaps this week our priorities might be examined. What is the one activity that if you do it to the best of your ability it could impact the people you come into contact with the most?

When the leader knows their most important priorities, they can begin to have a multiplying effect on their team. Does your team know their most important activities? What would happen if you would begin to build a team that was full of members who just did their three most important duties every day?

It would likely force you to build your team and it would take you to higher heights. If you can do it, so can your team. What is the first step you can take this week as the leader?

As believers, we are taught by Jesus that we cannot serve two masters. We read, “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.” Matthew 6:24 NLT.

He speaks about money and God, but the lesson speaks to the concept of any two items. Our brain wants to survive and therefore seeks to avoid pain while finding comfort. We are wise to remember that our brain is something of this world, but it is not our soul.

If we want God with all our heart and soul, then we need to put our priority in the right place. Today we can celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. It does not have to be the Easter holiday to celebrate it. Will we make it a one-hour affair or perhaps even shorter?

Perhaps we can accelerate our focus this week on THE priority. How might you lead today to start the day and end it with the most important priority. I am sure that the elements and demands of the world are going to attempt to get in the way.

But we are the masters of all that we do whether we are consciously making the choice or not. As the leader of you, will you make the priority list to include Christ today, this morning, or this afternoon? We have the power of choice and there is always a choice.

What will today look like to you if you make the priority of sharing the love of Jesus with yourself and others? As a leader, you have the choice before you. What is the first thing you can do about it today?

Let us pray, Heavenly Father, You are the priority that we seek. Help us to claim Jesus when the things of this world ask us to claim them instead. Let our thoughts, words, and actions proclaim you. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen,
