As team leaders or entrepreneurs, we have many moving parts deployed to deliver value. I like to think of it like it is a body. Each part: the hands, the feet, the head, and the heart, needs the others to fully function or it will be limited. So, what is the lifeblood of your business or team?
Could it be your value that people, or businesses are willing to pay for? While that might be true for a commodity business, a value-based business likely has something else. I think that the lifeblood of your team is the purpose that moves that value. Your why or purpose is like the heart of the body.
If that is true, then we could lose sight of your why. Different reactions could occur like your heart might skip a beat. Other body parts might harm the health of the heart or endanger it. Your blood pressure might drop. You might even have a heart attack and the entire body begins to shut down and die.
When the heart stops completely, in the world of medicine, every other focus drops immediately. The medical team will solve the heart issue first. Where has your team skipped a beat recently? Our inability to recognize the limits of the different parts is important.
Without the heart, there will be no long-term value provided. Maybe a look at your purpose can bring your team back into rhythm. What is the first thing you can do about it in the next seven days?
As a Christian, we are part of the church which is described in the Bible as being Christ's body. The message of Christ, the "why" of our faith, is as critical to our faith as our heart is to our body. We read, "People may be right in their own eyes, but the LORD examines their heart.” Proverbs 21:2 NLT.
While we allow for distractions to occur, it might be best then if we consider the heart when we make decisions. The next big decision might easily be tested by asking ourselves, "Will Christ approve or disapprove of the action or result?” That gets to the heart of the matter. Where have you been asking yourself why recently?
Has it been to answer the question from a worldly perspective which is limited? We can ask that question of why and seek the perspective of Christ? We have eyes to see and ears to hear. We have hearts to pump and stomachs to digest. We have all kinds of body parts with limits.
But there is no limit to what Christ can do in our lives if we allow him to guide our limits. Are you willing to go until God says no? His perspective is likely to bring love, grace, and peace but it might require us to examine our own hearts. What is the first thing you can do about it in the next seven days?
Let us pray, Jesus, you came to the world and shared your love. It was not the righteousness of the world that you sought to be with but the broken. You came and healed, loved, and taught. You were resurrected from the dead which showed us God the Father.
Send your Holy Spirit today to separate us from the brokenness and from the emptiness. Bring us together so that we can know the joy of life with our Savior. May that knowledge in our heart lead the righteousness of our minds. We pray because we have been born again to live with you in us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
