As an entrepreneur and team leader we see what our team members do and how they do it. But if you could reduce what they do and how they do, could you identify just two purposes? I want to challenge us as leaders to look for two not one. What are your two purposes?
There are great pairs like salt and pepper, the heart and mind, hot and cold, as well as Romeo and Juliet. What are the two purposes of your organization? What are the two purposes of your accounting division? Their two purposes will be different from the sales department.
But all the departments and their people will serve the organization and its clientele. As leader, can you identify the pairs that you might think are the two core purposes of your divisions? Do they match up with what your division leaders believe the purpose is? If not, then there is misalignment.
Knowing what the purpose is of each division gives the team the opportunity to be aligned. When we are not in alignment our values will be challenged. Our teams could function like a three wheeled cart to which the wheels are never in the same direction.
This will likely cause friction and frustration. Leaders at any level can look for the two purposes and the alignment that they are likely to bring. Today I am challenging those who are in the position of leadership to address the alignment. Is love, respect, or value missing from your alignment? What is the first thing that you can do about it in the next seven days?
In our faith, we are connected as a people. That means that there are at least two pieces. There is me for example, an author, connected to you as the reader. What great pairs can you think of from the Bible? There are more than pairs of people because we can think of pairs of actions as well.
Mary and Joseph are a pair, but we also think of trust and obey. What two purposes are you living out in your faith in the next quarter while you serve God? In Nehemiah 4:16 NLT we read, “But from then on, only half my men worked while the other half stood guard with spears, shields, bows, and coats of mail.
The leaders stationed themselves behind the people of Judah." It will not be long after this point in scripture that we find the builders wearing swords and laborers carrying spears while they assemble the wall. Can you focus on just two purposes for your activities before the holidays arrive?
Yes, there are many activities that you will do. But what is the purpose of all that activity? I'll be connecting myself and others to Christ and growing in my faith. That is connecting and growing for me. When we choose what the two purposes are, we can lean in and be intentional to them.
Which will you choose? What is the first thing that you can do about it in the next seven days?
Let us pray, Heavenly Father, you have created a means to be in relationship with you during life and death. Thank you for the opportunity to wake up this day and to experience all the pairs of this world.
Help us to clearly see the choices that will draw us closer to Christ. Make our path shine brightly so that we can follow your light. You have called our purposes to be those that bring honor and glory to you. We shall be strong and courageous about our purposes for the next quarter. Guide us seven days at a time. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
