Leading a team successfully often requires us to know when to use external resources. As entrepreneurial or team leaders, it is easy to spend most of our time with our team or our customers. But knowing when to use external resources is also important.
We can get trapped into believing that our team has all the resources we need. But remember, our beliefs are somewhat reflective of our perceptions, and they are often limited, if not outright wrong. This is why magicians’ tricks work because they are really just trappings of our perception.
Where is your team the strongest and weakest? How might an external resource help to exponentially improve either? An accountability partner changes our outcomes because what gets measured matters. Often the process of measuring will itself change the outcome. What is the first thing that you can do about it in the next seven days?
King Asa's history as recorded in 2 Chronicles is interesting. He was one of the few Kings to do good during his reign. His focus was on God much of the time. But later in his life he tended to get distracted. When he trusted God in the early years, the Kingdom was blessed.
When he did not, things tended to go against him. "In the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa developed a serious foot disease. Yet even with the severity of his disease, he did not seek the LORD’s help but turned only to his physicians.” 2 Chronicles 16:12 NLT.
Where might we be distracted, turning our minds and activities from Christ's message and relationship? Could it be that distractions come from entertainment by the television media, movies, or sites on the internet? Do you get a daily report on the world somehow? It might be in the form of a news broadcast, a newspaper or CNBC.com.
I am curious as to how you are getting a daily report or connection with God, or do you only connect with him on Sunday at best? Maybe our world would operate a little more smoothly, lovingly, and compassionately if we did so more often.
Let us think about an accountability partner for the next week and measure whether we are connecting with God daily. What we measure matters. What is the first thing that you can do about it in the next seven days?
Let us pray, Father God, we thank you for your consistency. You are always there. We are humbled and sometimes ashamed when we think about how little of our time and resources are spent on you. Support us, we pray as we support our brothers and sisters in relying on you.
May we progress in some small way weekly. The distance from here to there is achieved by one small step, day by day and week by week. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
