July 22. It Worked So Well That We Stopped Using It.

Great teams build successes upon successes and failures. As leaders of family, entrepreneurial and volunteer teams we have probably experienced this. Reviewing and improving on failed systems gets our attention first. That could happen because our brains pay attention to pain.

We do not normally seek to cause pain or experience it. We find it easy to address failures which certainly leads to enhancing value. But a review of those successes might pay dividends as well. What was so successful in the past that you stopped doing it? I suspect that many of the leaders that read this today are going to think, "I've done that!"

We all probably have; I certainly claim it. Will you allow me to collaborate with you at this moment? If so, let me guide you through a quick review. I challenge you to actually write some answers in the margins or grab something else for notes. Think back through the last three years, to what three team members and to what three clients did you provide the most value?

What did you deliver to them? In your opinion, what tools or resources were important to the success of the value you delivered? Can you see some recurring tools and resources among these answers? Are you currently using those tools and resources with your current team and clients? What is the first thing that you can do about it in the next seven days?

We are all on a spiritual journey and we each have our individualized path. Sometimes it has extreme dips and valleys while at other times it has hills and even mountains. But the current situation grabs our attention.

When you drive over a hill so fast and the bottom of your stomach disappears, you notice it and nothing else. But thankfully, the feeling quickly disappears. As we drive forward, when the next hill comes in front of us we will decide whether to go at a fast speed or we might slow down.

In our faith, we have made connections with God in the past. What worked so well in your faith, but you have forgotten it and how much it helped you? King Asa of the Bible certainly forgot. Hanani came to the king and said, “Do not you remember what happened to the Ethiopians and Libyans and their vast army, with all of their chariots and charioteers?

At that time, you relied on the LORD, and he handed them over to you.” 2 Chronicles‬ 16:8‬ NLT. Think back through the last three years, what tools and resources were important to your successful connection to Christ? How have you used them in the last ninety days? How might you use those same tools and resources in the next ninety days?

We can easily forget what tools, resources and people have helped us to collaborate in our faith. Our next step of growth in our faith might include collaborating with those resources. Let us pray, Heavenly Father, with you all things are possible. It is us that puts limits on you. We limit you and we collaborate with you. We pray that you might still our hearts and minds at those times when we have limited you.

Guide us to not get in the way of your miracles. May you be glorified through the meditation of our hearts and minds. In Jesus’ name, we pray.
