When we are in a group setting, how do you start a meeting? As entrepreneurs and leaders, it is often our role to start off a meeting. But how seriously have we thought about the start? It sets the stage for what will happen next. It can set the tone of the entire meeting.
It will captivate and include others and draw them into its purpose if done well. If not done well, it might just be the tone setter for mediocrity. Where can you improve your starts? A great runner is at a serious disadvantage if they do not start well in a sprint. When we operate among other great runners, that start is critical.
Some organizations and some leaders can start consistently in a leveraged way because of their focus on the importance of the start. How might we sharpen our own focus to start better? What is the first thing you can do about it in the next seven days?
How do you start a group prayer? Many do not feel comfortable praying aloud as one of our largest fears is public speaking. But finding a comfortable way to start is an easy way to begin feeling a little more at ease. We read, "So Paul stood, lifted his hand to quiet them, and started speaking.
“Men of Israel,” he said, “and you God-fearing Gentiles, listen to me." Acts of the Apostles 13: 16 NLT. Paul shares with us one way to start a meeting. He lifted his hand. We can lift our hands, fold them, and then announce a verbal countdown. Preparing our mind for prayer is important for ourselves as well as for groups.
Sometimes people can have an experience that does not go well and therefore they will avoid it in the future. We can challenge that attitude by our ability to focus. Focus can be put on the beginning and often that can be all that is needed to move the movement towards God instead of ourselves.
Where can you remember a start that you would do over? Perhaps we can have a stronger start with our focus being placed on it. God chose to make the end of Jesus’ life be the beginning or start for us. What is the first thing you can do in the next seven days to make your next start even better?
Let us pray, Jesus, you offer us a new start every day. We can leave our sins behind because of your gift and the grace offered to us through God. Shine your light on us as we start things new in our daily lives.
Make our starts be respectful, honorable and glorify you through the manner that we do them. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
