March 17. Yep, We All Have One Of Those Days Occasionally.

Mark Queen • March 16, 2024

Let's have better bad days!

Have you ever had a bad day? Companies and teams have bad days too. We all do regardless of what you are on those days. You might be a father or mother, a business owner or employee, a team leader, or a team member when it happens.

But we are best served to meet the challenge of bad days with optimism. One way to keep up that optimism is to remember the value that we deliver on a regular basis. We know what happens on the front stage for our clients. That is the place where our customers engage us for the product.

We know what happens on the backstage as well. Customers do not see that backstage normally, so it is easier for them to get near sighted. But our focus staying on the value of the front and backstage will affect our optimism. It may help us to remember how both stages can be of help.

Those stages have a different perspective. When a sale is not closed the salesperson has a perspective of lost commissions, but the accounting team may not even see that it happened. A new perspective is all that is needed sometimes to find optimism.

On the other side of that bad day is the good day. The choice might be as simple as deciding to transition to a good day. Good days are where companies and customers are aligned, and great value is had by all. The next time a bad day happens, who might you be able to align with to find some optimism because their perspective is different?

For Christians, we have bad days as well. Those days might be where God seems so far off and we might feel lonely and removed. There are days where airplanes get delayed and where the people we love suffer tragedies. But we can recall the gift of Christ and his sacrifice. That can give us hope.

In Luke 4:16-30, we read where Christ returned to his hometown in Galilee. He spoke in the synagogue on the sabbath right before his hometown folks ran him off. That would not be a very good day for me in my opinion. But Christ had the ability to remind us of a Godly perspective.

He did not have to change perspective because of who he was. We get trapped very easily into our own perspectives. Imagine this, you are planning to travel on a flight and your flight is delayed. What if the delay began a project for yourself to meet as many people as possible during the delay?

Instantly our focus, attitude, and demeanor would be changed. Those new connections might be the start of a loving relationship, a new friendship, a new client and at least a new shift of perspective. Bad days can happen to the best of us.

So, the question is, what will you do in the next seven days to turn the next bad day around? It can start with thinking about how to collaborate with others to change perspective. If you do not have a bad day this week, what can you do to help others turn their bad days around?

The Holy Spirit can move in our lives to collaborate with us. Perhaps we can switch our perspective to focus on the optimism of Christ. It can be as simple as collaborating in prayer. What will you do about it today?

Let us pray, Heavenly Father, we are called to be a people of optimism. We have a Christ that has given his all for us. His sacrifice takes care of us on the best of days and on the worst of days. Help us when the worst of days become relevant to us and those around us.

May your love be of comfort to the ailing and the mourning. Draw us near when it seems that everything else might be so far away. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
